joeheathen 21 Jul 2009, 01:16 | FP Hangs if I've been in another app Hey Turly...I hope your healing up pretty well. I'm getting pretty regular hangs in FP (Leopard 10.5.7). It generally happens if I've been in another app and go to right click anywhere on the desktop. I can seel FP getting a bit slower and slower with each right click, and finally I get the beachball and have to restart the finder. I did a search for "finder" in console and enclosed the info. in case that may be useful. I do have FP set to be active in all apps (but not enhance menus) and have put it in the exclude list for my unsanity haxies. Also, I use openmenuX (which appears in the "more" menu) more accessing services and stuff, maybe there's a comflict? Any ideas? Thanks. turly 21 Jul 2009, 11:33 | Re: FP Hangs if I've been in another app Hey Joe - am healing up quite well, thanks! Unfortunately I'm up the walls with 'real' work at the moment, after taking 2 months off while I recovered. I haven't powered on my Mac in about 2 weeks. Messages like 7/20/09 2:57:25 PM kernel CoreServicesUIAg[316] Unable to clear quarantine `finderpop-daemon': 13 look a bit odd, but apparently they're relatively harmless ... http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jsp ... ID=5958938 You're not using any haxie contextual menu enhancers, are you? They're not very compatible with FinderPop. It seems to me that there may well be a conflict between FinderPop and either OpenMenuX or whatever haxies you're using (in spite of FP using the same patching mechanism as Unsanity.) OpenMenuX used to work fine with FP, will try it again. What do you use OpenMenuX for? If it's just the Services menu, Nicholas Riley's ICeCoffEE (http://web.sabi.net/nriley/software/ ) works well. I'll try to look at these next time I get a chance to go Mac programming again - unfortunately not this weekend as am doing tour guide duty for some visiting friends. What haxies are you using? So how do you put FinderPop in the 'exclude' list for your haxies? Did you mean that FP and the haxies don't get "installed" in the same apps? About all I can suggest is that you enable FP only in the Finder and see if that is any better... |
joeheathen 21 Jul 2009, 23:54 | Re: FP Hangs if I've been in another app I think I have it worked out, it hasn't hung in a while. I don't use fruit menu, but I do use windowshade x and menumaster (which is for customizing keyboard shortcuts in app menus) - that was probably the culprit. Unsanity has an "exclude" list for each of their haxies in system preferences, along with a "master" exclude list for apps that APE won't patch at all. At first I dragged the finderpop daemon into it and did a logout/login, but that didn't work. After I dragged the finder into it and excluded finderpop from other apps though, things seem to be smoother. I rarely used the haxies in finder anyway. I also dragged a bunch of stuff unsanity shouldn't be patching in the first place in there (the dock, quicklookd, etc). You wouldn't believe how many error messages I was getting in console with windowshade x trying to patch quicklook Openmenu X seems to be working fine, too. I like to use that for three reasons: It moves files to other volumes instead of copying them, it allows me to organize my services into subfolders organized how I like, and it has the option for a smaller font size (I have FP set to 11 pt. type so my main menu and "more" menu are consistent). In case you couldn't tell, I've been on a sytem-tweaking bender the past few days. I'm not sure why because I'll be hopping on the Snow Leopard train come September and will be losing all my tweaking toys I did want to mention a couple other minor glitches to you, too. If I have "Inline FinderPop Items into main Contextual Menu" unchecked, then the finders "new folder" contextual menu command doesn't work....sometimes. Toggling the checkmark on and off (and switching between apps/relaunching the finder) and sometimes it will work, sometimes it won't. Of course, having it checked and the new folder command always works. Also, for whatever reason, when I had FP active in all apps, the "customize toolbar..." command in the app Pathfinder stopped working. Chances are these were a glitch with the unsanity haxies, too...I'll let you know if the behavior continues. Don't lose any sleep over it - don't want ya getting hit by a train. All in all FP is the bees knees. Besides, you got your work cut out for ya now that King Steve has nixed CM's. Thanks for everything! |
