Eric 31 Jul 2013, 22:11 | FP 2.5 fails to load at startup Very strange behaviour - FP 2.5 does not load at startup (Mini 10.8.4, 8G RAM). I have to manually open Sys Prefs and disable then enable FP to have it running never seen this before have deleted and re-installed, same behaviour perhaps another startup item interfering in FP startup? any thoughts welcomed thanks E |
turly 01 Aug 2013, 13:10 | Re: FP 2.5 fails to load at startup What are your other startup items? (System Preferences -> Accounts -> You -> Login Items) (Do this after you restart and before you manually start FinderPop so we can see what the LogIn Items at startup really is!) Eric 01 Aug 2013, 22:51 | Re: FP 2.5 fails to load at startup I have a bunch of apps that are loaded at startup, and finderpop-daemon is last on list. Unsure if it's wort posting a list of these items, or I can list them if useful. |
turly 02 Aug 2013, 11:08 | Re: FP 2.5 fails to load at startup You can email them to me if you want (turly@finderpop.com). Did you read that linked topic? Something about EarthCore..? |
nyfrenchie 31 Oct 2013, 14:38 | Re: FP 2.5 fails to load at startup I've also got the same "doesn't load" problem (have to open Syst. Prefs., stop FP and restart it). Of course Earthdesk loads on start up as well, but FP 2.5.1 (R.T.W.L) is last on the list of all (and I meanall: 37 items) my startup items. Yeah, the long list does considerable slow down my start up time, but it's still faster than starting everything up manually. If I don't have Edesk in the startup list, then instead of starting FP manually, I have to start Edesk manually (6, meet your twin half-dozen). For info, I'm on 10.7.5 on a MBPro mid-2009, 8gb RAM. Speaking of memory/CPU (like that segway? ), I've also noticed that when my machine starts up (and starts up, and starts up... ), FP uses a hell of lot of CPU for a minute or 2: I like to think I know a lot about my Mac (and yes, pigs WILL one day fly ), but could there be a connection somehow? |
turly 31 Oct 2013, 17:36 | Re: FP 2.5 fails to load at startup finderpop daemon will try to build menus of whatever is in your FinderPop items folder plus Desktop (I think I limit it to two levels deep, but maybe that goes too deep for your setup?) It should be quick enough though - I have 7 volumes and don't notice FP taking any time at all. Try temporarily emptying your FinderPop Items folder and turning off FP's 'Desktop' submenu to see if that makes a difference to startup CPU utilisation. Of course it could be that FP is trying to patch all 37 of your previously opened startup items ... it is possible that some of them are not yet up-and-running enough to be patched quite so early. I will have a look into this... |
turly 24 Nov 2013, 22:15 | Re: FP 2.5 fails to load at startup There's a test build of FinderPop 2.5.2 available which staggers the patching of currently-running apps when FinderPop starts up for the first time. This should help your case with 37 startup items! |
